To ensure transparency and combat rumors, I wanted to give you the following update.
There is currently a rumor that school staff may have received a warning that a student possessed a gun
at school prior to the public being made aware of the incident. That rumor is not accurate.
On Wednesday, September 16, around 11:00 AM, the District received a report of a
potential conflict between two students. The report stated that one of those students possessed a
gun the previous day, Tuesday, September 15. The school immediately initiated its investigative
procedures. At no point during that investigation was it found that either of the reported students
actually had a gun on campus the day before.
On Thursday, September 17, around 7:00 AM, law enforcement notified the District that there was a
gun on campus on Wednesday, September 16. The individual with the gun was not one of the two
people whose names were provided in the initial report involving Tuesday’s conflict situation. The
student involved in the gun situation on Thursday, September 17, was never mentioned to anyone at
school that this student may be in possession of a gun at any time.
In response to this incident, we have been in contact with law enforcement to discuss potential
changes to operations here at school to increase school safety. We will keep you in the loop of changes
as they are implemented. At this point, the investigation remains ongoing, and we will keep you
apprised of all information that we can legally share as it becomes available. Student safety is our top
priority, and we take this matter extremely seriously.

After arriving home from the bus the student informed their parents who notified law enforcement. Law enforcement acted immediately and recovered the hand gun in question. The student in question was taken into custody. Law enforcement informed me there was no threat here to the school and that the situation was under control and stable. If at any time we would have been told there was any kind of current threat here at school, we would have immediately canceled school for the day. Your child’s safety is our number one priority. This is a reminder that Election Day is tomorrow, August 4th. The Manton Consolidated School's operating millage renewal will be on the ballot. This is a renewal of the current operating millage and is not a tax increase. This is to ensure that non-homestead properties are taxed at the 18 mills.

Our plan is to have school open tomorrow for students. We are fortunate enough to have power at school, when many other schools do not. Our buses will run at their normal times, but some roads are still impassable with trees or low lines. We will pick up as many of our scheduled bus students as possible, but the buses may not be able to go down all of our roads. We have the opportunity to have a warm place to learn for students who have been without power for several days. We appreciate all of the hard work and countless hours our power line workers and first responders are putting in to get our lives back to normal. Hopefully we can have some normalcy tomorrow for our students and staff.

Due to wind chills this morning, Manton Consolidated Schools is on a 3 hour delay today, Friday, January 30. Latchkey will open at its regular time, but please be aware no breakfast will be served today at Latchkey.
Due to the projected wind chills tomorrow morning, Thursday, January 29th, Manton Consolidated Schools will be on a 3 hour delay. Your bus pick up will be exactly 3 hours later than normal. School will open at 11:20 AM, instead of 8:20 AM.

Ski Club Parents- After looking at the weather, we are still going to Caberfae today; however, due to the wind chill, we will be advising students to go inside for 10 minute breaks every 30 minutes to reduce their chances of frostbite. There is no way for Mrs. Thompson to monitor if students are taking breaks. If you are worried about your child's safety, please call the middle school immediately to let them know you would like your child not go to Caberfae today. Thank you!
