Good Evening. I have two messages for you today. 1. The first is that the Orange Tiger bus driven by Deb Butcher will be one hour late Friday afternoon on the return trip home due to a bus driver shortage. Again, the orange bus will be one hour late in the afternoon returning home. We are actively working on help in the transportation department, but will be short on occasion until that is fixed. We appreciate your understanding! 2. The second is that we did have three people in the middle school test positive for Covid-19 today. I know that many of you are wondering what the upcoming school year will look like. While we don’t have all the answers yet as we look for guidance from the health department and the State of Michigan. We do have some current plans that we are recommending to the board. The first is that masks will be optional for students and staff at school this year. Each family will be able to decide what they feel is best for their child. As a federal mandate, students must wear a mask on a school bus, which the federal government deems as public transportation. The testing for athletes mandate ended on June 22 and as such no testing is necessary at this time. Please keep in mind that these things may change if mandates are given to schools. For a few more questions and answers, please see our website under the announcement section. We will have a special board meeting on August 2nd at 6:30 to approve the current recommendations.

This is just a reminder for an opportunity to get a sports physical right here at school for the upcoming school year this upcoming Monday, July 19th by appointment only. Sports physicals will be held at our Manton Wellness Center located in our high school. Physicals are being scheduled by calling (231) 306-4900. They can bill your insurance or are asking for a $25 donation to conduct the physical. If neither are possible, no student will be turned away because they don’t have insurance or are unable to make a donation.

I have two pieces of information for you today. The first is that the health department is now allowing the school to only quarantine students who are 3 feet or closer to a confirmed case of Covid-19 if certain criteria are met. Close contacts are still notified if within 6 feet, but we will only need to quarantine 3 feet or closer. For more detailed information on these new guidelines, you can find them on our webpage or app under the Covid-19 section titled, “Guidance for Quarantine 5/21/21.” Secondly, we did have an individual in the middle school test positive for Covid-19 today. All close contacts have been notified and individuals needing quarantined have been told to do so. I hope you have a great weekend! Thank you!
