WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE!
We are so happy to start school and teach your sixth grader this year! Below you will find a “top ten” list of 6th grade announcements and information to make your child’s 1st day as smooth as possible.
1) Sixth graders each have an assigned locker. These lockers do NOT have a combination- just like in 5th grade. If students bring a phone, MP3 player, or other gadget of importance to school and would like it to stay in a locked place during the day they can give these to their homeroom teacher. We will have a special place to store these items in each of our rooms. Students will only be accessing lockers at the beginning of the day, before and after lunch, and at the end of the day this year.
2) Friday Folders will go home each Friday. Inside you’ll find a 6th grade newsletter as well as graded papers. Parents, it isn’t necessary for you to sign this folder, but we certainly hope that you’ll take the time to go through the contents. Friday Folders need to be returned each Monday so we can get them ready for the week.
3) All school forms were mailed home this year. Please return them to school as soon as possible!
4) New this year … all students will be wearing face masks while in the building. We are distributing two black face masks to each sixth grader on the first day of school. Please help your child keep track of these and wash the face mask that was worn at school for the day so your child will always start each day with a clean face mask. Students who forget a face mask at home will be given a disposable face mask for the day.
5) All students can have a FREE LUNCH this year. Teachers will take lunch orders in the classroom each morning and those lunches will be delivered to each classroom at lunch. We also have FREE BREAKFAST each day which will be delivered to classes just like in 5th grade. 6th grade recess is scheduled from 11:25 - 11:45 and lunch from 11:50 - 12:20.
6) Please sign up for REMIND. This is an app that allows you to communicate with sixth grade teachers via text. Sign up for an account and enter the code bbe81a to join 6th Grade. Or, sign up for text updates by texting 810-10 with the words "join bbe81a" to get updates from Manton 6th Grade via text message.
7) Chromebooks and chargers will be issued the first day of school. Students will need to charge their Chromebook every night, so please keep that charger in a location that helps your student remember to do this. Chromebooks will go home every day- even if there are no Chromebook assignments to complete. Students need to bring the device back to school the following day.
8) Please remember to screen your child’s health each morning. This includes taking your child’s temperature. Students need to be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.
9) Students need a water bottle this year. These water bottles will be used instead of the drinking fountains in the hall. We do have extra water bottles for students that don’t have one. Each Friday student water bottles will be sent home. Please make sure you wash them before bringing them back to school on Monday.
10) Please call or email if you have any questions. We look forward to working with you this year and hope your
child will consider sixth grade one of their TOP TEN years as a Manton Ranger. In fact, maybe even #1!

Please contact the middle school office ASAP if you want to enroll your child in our online program. The sooner we know, the sooner we can work on balancing out the final schedule for students and staff.
As always, we’d be happy to answer any questions you have as you weigh out the options. Whatever you decide, please know we’re working our hardest to make this the best year possible. #RangerPride
We know you're getting a lot of information this week, but you're going to want to watch this. If you can't tell, we're *pretty* excited to get back to in-person learning and have thought long and hard about how to do so in the safest way possible. We hope this answers some of your questions AND makes you smile!
Whatever it takes, Manton students are worth it! 🖤🧡

This is out informational flyer highlighting our two options this fall. We miss your kids! We LOVE teaching them face-to-face, and we value every opportunity to do so. That said, we understand these are tricky times. We want parents to have multiple options in order to decide what is best for *their* child. If you’re not comfortable sending your child to school in person this fall, please consider our online option.
Whatever it takes, Manton students are worth it!
